48-YEARS AGO THIS WEEK
___
In conjunction with KHJ Boss Radio (Los Angeles), RKO General, and Drake-Chenault Enterprises, CKLW presented ‘The History Of Rock & Roll‘ this week in 1969. This seminal, historic rockumentary comprised of 48 hours of programming from start to finish. Covering the first and second generation of rock, the program traces the early roots of rock ‘n’ roll from its origins in the early ’50s, of its influence impacting the hits of the ’60s. For four days, CKLW aired the Bill Drake HRR program in 12-hour blocks — 12 noon to 12 midnight — beginning Sunday, February 28 through Wednesday, March 3, 1969.

This remains the Best ever.I can remember when Jim O’Brien was doing some of the research on this.Sebastian Stone voiced the original here at 1440 Broadway at WOR FM 98’7.The 48 hour subsequent 72 hour and the 96 hour shows were all soectacular.I still think this along with the all time top 300 which were different countdowns in New york at OR FM ,Boston WRKO680,CKLW Detroit WINDSOR The Big 8,56WHBQ in Memphis as ell as THE BIG 610 KFRC in San Francisco.and Boss Radio 93 KHJ in Los Angeles all did incredible jobs and just think of Phil Yarborough at WAKE in Atlanta when he and Paul Drew invented radio,s best format ever The Drake format long before KYNO in FRESNO!
