REPLIES

James Nuznoff: Wow...what a great tribute to Chicago black radio in the late 1960s. I lived in the Detroit market at that time and listened to WJLB 1400, WCHB 1440, WCHD 105.9 and WGPR 107.5 during that era when I wished to listen to black programming. These stations seemed to devote more airtime to the DJs than did WKNR, CKLW or WXYZ. As was mentioned in this post, they didn't use as many jingles. But I do remember "14-40 WCHB". I will provide other memories of Detroit radio in other posts. Again, this was a super good, top quality audio post.

Doug Thompson: Loved Stan Freberg, Jim. The first Freberg 45 that I bought was "The Old Payola Roll Blues" which I heard on the Bob Laine all night show on CHUM Toronto in 1960. From then on, I bought all of his singles and albums as they were released, including many years later, the Smithsonian box sets of his CBS radio show and of course, the 4 CD "Tip of The Freberg" box set. Met him once at Prism Studios in Hollywood.Incredible talent.

Vaughn B.: Let's face it without PAMS Of Dallas every jingle company today wouldn't be exist, why without PAMS there would be no TM, Reel Good, Reelworld, Top Format, Otis Conner, Toby Arnold, Tony Griffin, Pepper-Tanner, Media General, GMI, Parma, Total Sound, Alfasound, Standard Sound, Muff Murfin, Century 21 Programming, Radioscape, Thompson Creative, Zone Jingles, William B. Tanner, Upbeat, Firstcom, and of course the legendary and iconic JAM Creative Productions Incorporated, all of them can trace back to PAMS and their everlasting legacy and influence that makes Dallas-Fort Worth the radio jingle capital of the world!
