Shown here are my takeaways based on Nielsen Audio’s 6+ total week stats from the May 2025 ratings period.
Round One
New York
Regaining the two-tenths it lost this time last month (8.0 – 7.8 – 8.0, 6+), iHeartMedia Adult Contemporary WLTW “106.7 Lite FM” is #1 the 33rdconsecutive time. Urban Contemporary cluster-mate WWPR “Power 105.1” is up four-tenths (2.4 – 2.8, steady at #14, 6+), while Audacy’s similarly-formatted WXBK “94.7 The Block” picks up two-tenths (1.6 – 1.8, #19 to #16, 6+). In four straight sweeps without a loss, iHeartMedia CHR WHTZ “Z-100” nets one full-share (4.6 – 5.0 – 5.0 – 5.1 – 5.6, fifth to fourth, 6+). Contrasted to “Z-100” improving by one-half share in May 2025, Univision Spanish Contemporary WXNY “La X 96.3” decreases by that amount (2.2 – 1.7, #16 to #18. 6+).
Los Angeles
Notwithstanding that it’s flat at 5.9 (6+), “KOST 103.5” reigns for the seventh successive sweep. The iHeartMedia Adult Contemporary outlet though isn’t alone in the penthouse: Audacy Classic Hits KRTH “K-Earth 101” picks up three-tenths (5.6 – 5.9, 6+) to progress from second to a first-place tie. This (5.9) is the best 6+-showing for “K-Earth” since September 2024’s 6.4. Both of the market’s Alternative combatants register May 2025 increases and are now separated by four-tenths. Specifically, iHeartMedia’s KYSR “Alt 98.7” is +.2 (2.8 – 3.0, #14 to #13, 6+) and Audacy-owned “106.7 KROQ” is +.3 (2.3 – 2.6, #17 to #15, 6+). Owing to three successive dips, Univision Regional Mexican KSCA “La Nueva 101.9” has a net loss of eight-tenths (3.2 – 3.1 – 3.0 – 2.4, #13 to #16, 6+).
Chicago
Following three upticks in succession that generated a net +1.5 (4.2 – 5.0 – 5.2 – 5.7, 6+), iHeartMedia Adult Contemporary WLIT surrenders three-tenths to 5.4 (6+); however, “93.9 Lite FM” repeats at #1. Its lead though over Hubbard Broadcasting-owned Classic Rock WDRV is just one-tenth, as “97.1 The Drive” notches its third straight sweep without a loss for a collective +.6 (4.7 – 5.1 – 5.3 – 5.3, unchanged in second-place, 6+). Venture Technologies Group low-power Adult Contemporary WRME-LP adds six-tenths to April 2025’s increase of three-tenths and “MeTV FM 87.7” reaches a three-share for the first time since October 2024’s 3.5 (2.1 – 2.4 – 3.0, #16 to #11, 6+).
San Francisco
A combined +.9 the past two sweeps (9.7 – 10.5 – 10.6, 6+), KQED Inc.-owned public News/Talk KQED relinquishes that entire gain plus another tenth (9.6, -1.0, 6+), yet is #1 the fifth straight month. With a May 2025 increase of nine-tenths, Audacy’s KCBS-AM & KFRC-FM recaptures in full what it lost the past two months (7.2 – 6.5 – 6.3 – 7.2, 6+) and is steady in the runner-up slot. In so doing, “All News 740 AM & 106.9 FM” narrows the gap between #1 KQED from 4.3 shares (April 2025, 6+) to 2.4 shares (May 2025, 6+). Locked on 2.6 (6+) in March and April, iHeartMedia’s KOSF “Classic Hits 103.7” breaks out a +1.1 to 3.7 (6+), catapulting from #16 all the way into the top ten (#7).
Dallas
It remains a tight race at the top between Cumulus Media cluster-mates with a mere two-tenths separating first- and second-place. KTCK “Sports Radio The Ticket” is up two-tenths (5.7 – 5.9, 6+) and repeats at #1, while co-owned KSCS “New Country 96.3” picks up three-tenths (5.4 – 5.7, 6+) to continue in the runner-up slot. This marks KSCS’ fourth improvement in a row for a net +1.8 (3.9 – 4.4 – 4.9 – 5.4 – 5.7, 6+). Meanwhile, AudacyRegional Mexican KMVK “La Grande 107.5” doubles April 2025’s +.4 with May 2025’s +.8 and enters the top ten (3.2 – 3.6 – 4.4, #12 to #6, 6+).
Houston
Albeit off one-tenth (7.7 – 7.6, -.1, 6+), iHeartMedia Adult Contemporary KODA “Sunny 99.1” sets the pace for the 10th sweep in a row. As a result of posting a +.8 to 3.4 (#20 to #16, 6+), University of Houston-owned KUHF “News 88.7” halts four straight dips that accounted for a -1.6 (4.2 – 3.8 – 3.3 – 3.1 – 2.6, 6+). Regional Mexican-formatted stations finish at #18, #19, and #20: Estrella Media’s KQQK “El Norte 107.9” (2.9 – 2.7, -.2, #19 to #18, 6+); Univision-owned KLTN “Que Buena 102.9” (3.3 – 2.5, -.8, #16 to #19); and Estrella Media’s KTJM “La Raza” (3.4 – 2.4, -1.0, #15 to #20, 6+).
Atlanta
Just two-tenths is the separation between the top two finishers, both from the same cluster. Although down a combined three-tenths the past two months (8.0 – 7.8 – 7.7, 6+), Cox Media Group’s WSRV “Classic Hits 97.1 The River” is on top the third consecutive sweep. Co-owned simulcast WSB-AM & WSBB-FM “Atlanta’s News & Talk” registers a half-share gain to 7.5 (fourth to second, 6+), thus curtailing three straight down or flat months that resulted in a net -2.0 (9.0 – 7.9 – 7.0 – 7.0, 6+). Immediately behind those siblings are two Urban AC-formatted outlets: Cox Media Group’s WALR “Kiss 104.1” (7.1 – 6.8, -.3, flat at #3, 6+) and Urban One-owned WAMJ “Majic – The Real Sound of Atlanta” (7.2 – 6.7, -.5, second to fourth, 6+). Not only does Educational Media Foundation Contemporary Christian WAKL expunge its combined -1.3 the past two months (3.9 – 3.8 – 2.6, 6+) with May 2025’s potent +1.5 to 4.1 (6+), “106.7 K-Love” vaults from #16 to #8.
Philadelphia
On top the third successive month, Beasley Broadcast Group’s WMGK “Classic Rock 102.9 MGK” records an increase of two-tenths (9.0 – 9.2, 6+). Faltering by eight-tenths each are Audacy-owned/Phillies flagship WIP “Sports Radio 94” (7.2 – 6.4, third to fourth, 6+) and its Classic Hits cluster-mate, WOGL “Big 98.1” (4.1 – 3.3, #8 to #11, 6+). This time last month, “Sports Radio 94” was +1.9 (5.3 – 7.2, 6+); “Big 98.1” entered the May 2025 sweep having notched four consecutive gains for a collective +1.9(2.2 – 3.1 – 3.5 – 3.7 – 4.1, 6+).
Nassau-Suffolk (Long Island)
Not only has Red Apple Media-owned “77 WABC” ballooned its 6+-stat by 250% via three back-to-back-to-back (!) upticks of +1.3 each (2.6 – 3.9 – 5.2 – 6.5, 6+), the News/Talk facility vaults from fifth to first. Cox Media Group CHR WBLI “106.1 BLI” answers its combined -1.1 the past two months (5.2 – 4.5 – 4.1, 6+) with May 2025’s +.8 to 4.9 (ninth to fifth, 6+). In a bit of a statistical oddity – although not quite the magnitude of the one noted above by WABC – Audacy-owned/Yankees flagship WFAN “Sports Radio The Fan” (5.6 – 4.7, second to eighth, 6+) and its internet stream (3.0 – 2.1, #13 to #15) are both off by nine-tenths.
Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario
Continuing an alternating up/down pattern that began in January 2025 (8.4 – 9.0 – 8.6 – 10.2 – 9.9, 6+), Entravision Spanish Adult Hits KLYY drops three-tenths; nonetheless, “Jose” is #1 the fifth straight month. Unlisted in March 2025, Lazer Media Regional Mexican KAEH “Radio Lazer” resurfaced the following month with a .5 (April 2025, 6+) and now (May 2025) adds seven-tenths to 1.2 (#17 to #14, 6+). As a result of three successive deficits, Anaheim Broadcasting Classic Hits “KOLA 99.9” is a net -2.6 (8.6 – 7.6 – 6.8 – 6.0, flat at #3, 6+).
San Jose
An increase of four-tenths (5.0 – 5.4, 6+) propels Univision Regional Mexican KSOL “Que Buena” from second to first, succeeding co-owned Spanish Adult Hits KBRG. After being +1.0 in April, “Amor 100.3” regresses by eight-tenths (4.4 – 5.4 – 4.6, 6+) and slips from first to fifth. Meanwhile, “Que Buena” holds a two-tenths advantage over Alpha MediaHot AC KEZR “Mix 106.5,” which flaunts a +1.2 (4.0 – 5.2, 6+) to jump from sixth to second. Posting its sixth uptick in a row for a net +2.1 (2.7 – 3.0 – 3.7 – 3.9 – 4.1 – 4.6 – 4.8, 6+), iHeartMedia Hot AC KIOI rounds out the top three as “Star 101.3” advances from fourth to third.
Middlesex-Somerset-Union
In addition to repeating at #1, Audacy Classic Hits WCBS-FM registers its fifth straight gain for a collective +1.6 (4.6 – 4.9 – 5.1 – 5.4 – 5.7 – 6.2, 6+). Three-tenths behind “New York’s Greatest Hits” in a second-place tie are iHeartMedia Classic Rock WAXQ “Q-104.3” (5.5 – 5.9, +.4, third to second, 6+) and Townsquare Media News/Talk WKXW “New Jersey 101.5” (5.6 – 5.9, +.3, unchanged at #2, 6+). At the same time as Audacy-owned/Yankeesflagship WFAN “Sports Radio The Fan” gains eight-tenths to 3.5 (#11 to #9, 6+), iHeartMedia CHR WHTZ “Z-100” surrenders nine-tenths (4.2 – 3.3, seventh to tenth, 6+). This is WFAN’s third increase in succession for an overall +1.4 (2.1 – 2.2 – 2.7 – 3.5, 6+).
Round Two
Washington, DC
The Nation’s Capital is a rare PPM-market with two stations in double-digits (6+). To the point, News/Talk WAMU “88.5 American University Radio” (12.4 – 12.2, -.2, 6+) is #1 the 11th sweep in succession, while Hubbard Broadcasting’s “WTOP News” (10.5 – 10.7, +.2, 6+) has retained the runner-up slot in each of those 11 survey periods. Also in the spoken-word arena, Cumulus Media News/Talk “105.9 FM WMAL” shakes off April 2025’s -.6 with May 2025’s full-share increase (4.7 – 4.1 – 5.1, sixth to fifth, 6+).
Boston
Despite a massive -1.3 (7.2 – 5.9, 6+), Audacy Adult Contemporary WMJX “Magic 106.7” is on top the fourth straight time. In Beantown’s hotly-contested Sports Talk arena, WMJX cluster-mate WEEI-FM “93.7 Boston’s Sports Original” (Red Sox) is off one-tenth (4.7 – 4.6, ninth to eighth, 6+) – but – manages to catch Beasley Broadcast Group’s WBZ-FM “98.5 The Sports Hub” (5.2 – 4.6, -.6, sixth to eighth, 6+). “The Sports Hub” (Celtics, Bruins) had a 5.5-share advantage over WEEI-FM in the “Holiday” 2024 sweep (7.8 – 2.3, 6+) and was the market’s #1 station (6+) in January 2025. Following four straight upticks for a combined +1.1 (4.5 – 4.6 – 4.8 – 5.1 – 5.6, 6+), Beasley Broadcast Group Classic Hits “105.7 WROR” falters by eight-tenths to 4.8 (second to seventh, 6+).
Miami
After three successive months at #1, Cox Media Group Adult Contemporary WFEZ (6.9 – 6.0, -.9, 6+) slips to third. Succeeding “Easy 93.1” at the top is another AC: Audacy-owned WLYF “101.5 Lite FM” (6.2 – 6.6, +.4, third to first, 6+). With a March 2025 – April 2025 – May 2025 trend of 1.9 – .3 – 2.6 (+2.3, 6+), Educational Media FoundationContemporary Christian WMLV “K-Love” reaches the top twenty (#20).
Seattle
In five straight sweeps without a loss, “94.9 KUOW” was a collective +1.7(6.3 – 6.7 – 7.6 – 7.8 – 7.8 – 8.0, 6+). Even though the University of Washington-owned News/Talk outlet is off one-half share to 7.5 (6+), it is #1 the fifth straight month. Hubbard Broadcasting Adult Contemporary KRWM “Warm 106.9” posts its third straight sweep without a loss for an overall +.9 (4.7 – 4.8 – 4.8 – 5.6, fifth to third, 6+). Meanwhile, Audacy’s once similarly-programmed KSWD is -1.0 in that same timeframe and drops off the top twenty (3.4 – 3.2 – 3.0 – 2.4, #20 to #21, 6+). As of last September, KSWD shifted from AC to Hot AC, using the “Emma 94.1” handle.
Detroit
A combined +2.7 the past two sweeps (6.2 – 7.6 – 8.9), Audacy Sports Talk WXYT-FM “97.1 The Ticket” drops three-tenths to 8.6 (6+); however, the flagship of the Tigers; Pistons; and Red Wings repeats at #1. As co-owned WYCD “99.5 Detroit’s Country” gains one full-share (5.2 – 6.2, sixth to fourth, 6+), iHeartMedia Adult Contemporary “100.3 WNIC” falters by that margin (7.5 – 6.5, -1.0, second to third, 6+). Prior to the April 2025 sweep, WNIC had been #1 five straight times. Once powerful market mainstay, Cumulus Media’s “News/Talk 760 WJR,” is trending 2.8 – 2.2 – 1.8 – 1.4 (6+) and – perhaps for the first time in the PPM-era – departs the top twenty (#20 to #22).
Phoenix
In addition to being a net +2.7 as a result of five consecutive increases (5.4 – 5.6 – 5.8 – 5.9 – 7.5 – 8.1, 6+), Hubbard Broadcasting’s “Classic Rock 100.7 KSLX” repeats at #1. This time last month, it supplanted iHeartMedia Adult Contemporary KESZ “99.9 KEZ,” which had reigned as market leader the previous 21 survey periods. KESZ picks up one-tenth (7.3 – 7.4, 6+) and continues at #2. Denver
Down one-tenth in back-to-back sweeps (6.6 – 6.5 – 6.4, 6+), Bonneville International Adult Contemporary KOSI “Real Music Variety” is nonetheless #1 the third month in a row. Portland
Four straight decreases by iHeartMedia Adult Contemporary KKCW accounted for a net loss of -9.3 or basically half its 6+-stat (18.1 – 9.6 – 9.5 – 9.0 – 8.8). “K-103” rebounds in May 2025, however, with a half-share increase to 9.3 (6+) and is #1 the eighth consecutive survey period. The switch is paying off as “Hits 105.3” exhibits a combined +4.0 in three straight surges (3.9 – 4.6 – 5.1 – 7.9, 6+); moreover, it zooms from sixth to first. Displaced at the top after a two-month residency is co-owned “99.5 KISS Rocks San Antonio” (8.2 – 7.7, -.5, first to second, 6+). At the same time when Educational Media Foundation Contemporary Christian KZLV “K-Love” adds nine-tenths (4.3 – 5.2, ninth to sixth, 6+), UnivisionRhythmic CHR KBBT “The Beat 98.5” subtracts that amount (3.6 – 2.7, #12 to #13, 6+).
Sacramento
Without a loss the fifth straight time for a net +1.0 (8.4 – 8.4 – 8.6 – 8.8 – 9.1 – 9.4, 6+), iHeartMedia’s KFBK “News 93.1” is #1 the third month in succession. Co-owned/similarly-formatted KSTE “Talk 650” adds eight-tenths to April’s gain of two-tenths (3.6 – 3.8 – 4.6, eighth to fifth, 6+). Even though iHeartMedia’s “News Radio 700” WLW (Reds) picks up six-tenths (8.8 – 9.4, 6+), it segues from first to second. Owing to three straight losses, co-owned/similarly-formatted WKRC “55 KRC” is a net -2.8 (6.1 – 5.5 – 4.7 – 3.3, #6 to #13, 6+).
