It was known for playing the latest hits and was a favorite among listeners who enjoyed contemporary music. Some notable DJs from that era included Dick Purtan, Dave Prince (“David L in the Night”) Doug Dunbar, Lou Roberts, Steve Kelly, and Jeff Jennings.
In today’s USARM (USA Radio Museum) aircheck presentation we recall the voice of WCZY personality, Randy Carr, from May 13, 1980.
WCZY FM 95.5, known as “Z95.5,” was on the air in Detroit from 1978 to 1989. After that, the station changed its call sign and eventually rebranded to WKQI, which continues to operate today as “Channel 955” with a Top 40 (CHR) format.
Dick Purtan was a well-known radio personality who joined WCZY in 1983 and stayed with the station until 1989. He was a beloved morning show host and had a long career in Detroit radio.
Dave Prince was another popular DJ who worked at WCZY during the 1980s. He had a unique and entertaining style that made him a favorite among listeners.
