“The Day the Music Died” on WCFL was nearly 50 years ago on March 15th, 1976. WCFL threw in the towel leaving “The Big 89” as the lone AM Top 40 station in Chicago. Larry Lujack stayed for six months after the format switch as WCFL and hosted Beautiful Music in the afternoon. He would return to WLS on September 16, 1976 and stay another 11 years.
You can hear Larry’s last WCFL Rock and Roll Show on Saturday, March 14th, beginning at 11am Central Time on RewoundRadio.com. In addition to Larry, you will hear other radio surprises, such as an interview by Jim Hampton with WCFL’s Ken Draper, and a montage of WCFL jocks from 1965 to 1976. It will be interesting to count just how many of those CFL jocks also worked at WLS.
Be sure to tune in on Saturday, March 14th at 12N Eastern/11am Central for the DJ Hall of Fame.
